Softshell is a stretchy 3-layer material with an 8,000 membrane which combines advantages of the second and third layer. Softshell products are usually made by lamination of the three layers; the outer fabric has DWR treatment and in between the layers there is a membrane which the lower layer is laminated onto. The 8,000 membrane is resistant to rain, wind or wet snow and doesn’t limit breathability.
